ਜਿਸੇ ਹਮ ਸਦਾ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਤੇ ਹੈਂ।
ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦੇ ਪਾਸਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਪੇਂਡੂ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਮਸੀਹੇ, ਦਰਵੇਸ਼ ਸਿਆਸਤਦਾਨ, ਕਰਮਯੋਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਘੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਸੇਵਕ ਸ. ਜਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਲਾਹੀ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਿਤੀ 5 ਜਨਵਰੀ, 1928 ਨੂੰ ਮਾਤਾ ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਚੰਨਣ ਕੌਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਖੋਂ, ਪਿਤਾ ਸ. ਬਖਸ਼ੀਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪਿੰਡ ਕੰਦੋਲਾ ਜਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੋਇਆ। ਆਪ ਲਗਭਗ 86 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ 2 ਨਵੰਬਰ, 2013 ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਫਾਨੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਲਵਿਦਾ ਕਹਿ ਗਏ।
ਸ. ਜਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਲਾਹੀ ਹੋਰਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਅਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਰਪੂਰਤਾ ਬਖਸ਼ਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਸਮਾਜ ਸੇਵਾ ਨੂੰ, ਆਪਣਾ ਸੱਚਾ-ਸੁੱਚਾ ਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਇਸ ਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਤੇ ਸਾਲਮ ਸਬੂਤੇ ਕਦਮੀ ਤੁਰਦਿਆਂ, ਉਹ ਵਿਦਿਆ
ਦੇ ਪਾਸਾਰ ਲਈ, ਆਖਰੀ ਸਾਹ ਤੱਕ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਯਤਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਰਹੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ
ਸਨ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸੂਬੇ ਲਈ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼, ਧਰਮ-ਯੁੱਧ
ਮੋਰਚਾ, ਪੈਪਸੂ ਵਜ਼ਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਯਾਤਰਾਵਾਂ, ਇਸ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ
ਦਾ ਆਰੰਭ ਤਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜਦੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਤੋਂ ਬੀ.ਏ ਕਰਨ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਕਨੂੰਨ ਦੀ
ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਯਾਨੀ ਐੱਲ.ਐੱਲ.ਬੀ. ਦੇ ਤੀਸਰੇ ਸਾਲ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਦਿਆ, ਇਹ ਸੋਚ
ਪੱਕੀ, ਪੀਡੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਮਕਸਦ ‘ਕੁਝ ਬਣਨਾ’ ਨਹੀਂ, ‘ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨਾ’ਸੀ ,ਕੀ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਲੰਮੀ ਗਾਥਾ ਹੈ।
ਠੀਕ ਹੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ-

ਸੇ ਸੁਨ ਰਹਾ ਥਾ ਜ਼ਮਾਨਾ
ਏਕ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ

ਇਸ ਮਹਾਨ
ਸਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ,
ਪਿੰਡ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ 1959 ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ 1992 ਤੱਕ ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਜਿਤਾ ਕੇ, ਬਾਕੀ ਹਰ ਵਾਰ, ਸਰਬਸੰਮਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਰਪੰਚ ਬਣਾਇਆ, ਉਹ 1952 ’ਚ ਪੈਪਸੂ
ਸਟੇਟ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਦੀ ਅਦਾਲਤੀ-ਪੰਚਾਇਤ ਦੇ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਬਣੇ, ਬਲਾਕ
ਸੰਮਤੀ ਤੇ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਸ਼ਦ ਕਪੂਰਥਲਾ ਦੇ ਦੋ-ਦੋ ਵਾਰ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਚੁਣੇ ਗਏ, 1965 ਤੋਂ 1971 ਤੱਕ ਮਾਰਕੀਟ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਫਗਵਾੜਾ ਦੇ
ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਬਣੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਮੇਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਹੁਦੇ ਦਾ ਸਦਉਪਯੋਗ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ, ਫਗਵਾੜਾ
ਹਲਕੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ’ਚ ਸੜਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਾਲ ਵਿੱਛਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ
ਆਪ ਦੀ ਕਾਰਜ ਸ਼ੈਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਦਿਆਂ ‘ਸੜਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ’ ਦੇ ਖਿਤਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ। ਫਿਰ
ਇੰਪਰੂਵਮੈਂਟ ਟਰੱਸਟ ਫਗਵਾੜਾ ਦੇ 1978 ਵਿੱਚ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਬਣੇ, ਤਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਮਨ ’ਚ ਉਸਦੀ ਅਮਿਟ ਛਾਪ ਛੱਡੀ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ’ਚ ਗਵਰਨਰੀ ਰਾਜ ਸਮੇਂ
ਪੰਜ ਸਾਲ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪਲਾਨਿੰਗ ਬੋਰਡ ਕਪੂਰਥਲਾ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਬਣੇ, ਪੇਂਡੂ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ
ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਸਾਲ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਰਹੇ, ਫਖ਼ਰ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਰਕਾਰੇ -
ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਕਸਦ ਸੀ - ਪੇਂਡੂ ਵਿਕਾਸ। ਵਿਕਾਸ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ, ਇਲਾਕੇ ਦਾ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ। ਖੇਤਰ ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ ਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਧਰਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦਾ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ
ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ੀ ਸੋਚ ਤੇ ਸੱਚੀ- ਸੁੱਚੀ ਕਾਰਜ ਸ਼ੈਲੀ ਦਾ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੁੰਗਾਰਾ ਭਰਿਆ ਤੇ ਮਣਾਂ
ਮੂੰਹੀ ਪਿਆਰ-ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ, ਦ੍ਰਿੜਤਾ, ਨਿਡਰ ਕਾਰਜਸ਼ੀਲਤਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਹੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਦੋ ਵਾਰ ‘ਸ਼ੋਸ਼ਲ ਵਰਕਰ’ ਦੇ ਖਿਤਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆਂ। ਸ. ਜਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਲਾਹੀ
ਹੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ, ਲਾਸਾਨੀ ਸਖਸ਼ੀਅਤ ਦੀ ਖੂਬਸੂਰਤ ਪਰਤ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ
ਜਿਸ ਵੀ ਕੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਪਾਇਆ, ਪੂਰੀ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਾਲ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਆਪ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਗੁਰਦੂਆਰਾ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੇ, ਪਰ ਸੰਨ 1983 ਵਿੱਚ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਿਕ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਿਆਂ, ਗੁਰਦੂਆਰਾ ਸੁਖਚੈਨਆਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਚੌੜਾ ਖੂਹ ਫਗਵਾੜਾ ਦੇ ਆਪ
ਨੂੰ ਰਸੀਵਰ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਆਪ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਚੌੜਾ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਮੰਜ਼ਲੀ
ਲੰਗਰ ਅਤੇ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼ੀ ਇਮਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਉਸਾਰੀ ਫਗਵਾੜਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਛੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੇ ਅਰਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀਤੀ। ਆਪ 1985 ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਰੂਰਲ ਡਿਵੈਲਪਮੈਂਟ ਸੁਸਾਇਟੀ ਪਲਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਸਨ, ‘ਦਾ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਇੰਸਟੀਚਿਉਟ ਫਾਰ ਇੰਟੈਗਰੇਟਿੰਡ ਰੂਰਲ ਡਿਵੈਲਮੈਂਟ ਐਂਡ ਟ੍ਰਾਂਸਫਰ
ਆਫ਼ ਟੈਕਨੌਲਜੀ’ ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ‘ਪੇਂਡੂ - ਵਿਕਾਸ’ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਮਾਨ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ; ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ, ਫਗਵਾੜਾ ਬਲਾਕ ਦੇ 80 ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ’ਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਟੈਂਕੀਆਂ, ਗੋਬਰ ਗੈਸ
ਪਲਾਂਟ, ਅੰਡਰ ਗਰਾਊਂਡ ਸੀਵਰੇਜ, ਸੋਲਰ ਵਾਟਰ
ਹੀਟਿੰਗ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਆਦਿ ਸਹੂਲਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਈਆਂ।
ਖੇਤਰ ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ ਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਪੇਂਡੂ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦਾ ਜਾਂ ਧਰਮ ਦਾ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ
ਸੇਵਾ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਤੇ ਸਮਪਰਣ ਇੱਛਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਸਾਲ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਇਦ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ
ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਅੱਖਰ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦਾ ਖੇਤਰ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਪੇਂਡੂ -ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ

ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ’ਚ ਅਕਾਰਸ਼ਕ ਸਤੰਬ ਦੀ ਉਸਾਰੀ
ਕਰਾਈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪਬਲਿਕ ਸਕੂਲ ਪਲਾਹੀ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ
ਕਾਲਜੀਏਟ ਸਕੂਲ ਫਗਵਾੜਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਲਜ ਸੁਖਚੈਨਆਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਫਗਵਾੜਾ, ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੇ 500 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਉਤਸਵ ਸਮੇਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ’ਚ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਕਾਲਜਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਲਜ ਸੁਖਚੈਨਆਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਫਗਵਾੜਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ
ਮੋਹਰੀਆਂ ’ਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦੇ ਪਾਸਾਰ ਲਈ ਆਪ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਣਥੱਕ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਕ ਇਰਾਦੇ ਨੂੰ
ਦੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਵਿਦਿਅਕ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕੀ ਕਾਰਜ ’ਚ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ
ਸੀ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੰਤ ਬਾਬਾ ਦਲੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਡੁਮੇਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਰਾਇ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਸੈਕੰਡਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ
ਦੁਸਾਂਝ ਕਲਾ ਆਦਿ। ਉਹ ਸਮਾਜ-ਸੇਵੀ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਰੋਟਰੀ ਕਲੱਬ, ਇਨਵਾਇਰਮੈਂਟ

ਸੰਸਥਾ ਨੇ ਜਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਵੀ ਖੇਤਰ ’ਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਕੁਰਸੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਫ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਧਾਈ, ਸਗੋਂ ਉਸ ਸੰਸਥਾ, ਜਥੇਬੰਦੀ ਜਾਂ ਖੇਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਲੱਖਣ
ਪਹਿਚਾਨ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੱਚੀ- ਸੁੱਚੀ ਸੋਚ, ਨੇਕ ਇਰਾਦੇ, ਦ੍ਰਿੜ - ਸੰਕਲਪ ਤੇ ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ੀ ਕਾਰਜ ਸ਼ੈਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਲਾਮ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ, ਇਹ ਦਸਣਾ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਵਿਦਿਅਕ ਕੌਸਲ ਦੇ ‘ਅਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ’ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ
ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਲੇ ਸਾਲਾਂ ’ਚ ਸਿਹਤ ਦੀ ਬੇਵਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ, ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਮਿਸਾਲ ਕਾਇਮ ਕੀਤੀ ‘ਅਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ’ ਤਿਆਗਦਿਆਂ, ਜਿਸ ਸਖ਼ਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ‘ਚ ਉਂਗਲੀ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਚਲਣਾ ਸਿਖਾਇਆ ਸੀ, ਸਗੋਂ ਹਰ
ਵਕਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਖਦਿਆਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਹੀਨ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ, ਪਥ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਕ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ

ਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਹਬਿਰ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਥੀ, ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਸੋਚ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਸ ਹੱਦਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੈ ਜਾਣ

A visionary crusader in the field of education and rural
development, a distinguished statesman, a true ‘karma yogi’ and philanthropist
to the core, Sardar Jagat Singh Palahi was born on January 5, 1928 to Smt.
Chanan Kaur and Sardar Bakhshish singh
in the village Kandela (Dist. Jalandhar). On November 2, 2013 at the age of 86,
he bade goodbye to this mortal world.
True to
his name, Sardar Jagat Singh adopted social service as his mission of life. Pursuing
this mission with whole-hearted dedication, he incessantly strived for the
cause of education till the last breath of his life. His multifaceted persona remained
undeterred while facing so many struggles like striving for Punjabi Province,
fighting for the cause of religion, sufferings in jail and so on. The seeds for
all these were sown in his student life.
While pursuing third year of L.L.B., after completing B.A. from Panjab
University, Chandigarh, he had made up his mind to give his life ‘a meaningful
existence’.
S. Jagat Singh’s life was exemplary in more than one way. It
goes to his credit that from 1959 to 1992, he fought elections only once, and
was every time chosen ‘Sarpanch’ unanimously. In 1952, he became the Chairman
of Pepsu State Regional Panchayat. He was elected twice the member of Block
Smiti and Zila Parishad, Kapurthala. He remained Chairman, Market Committee,
Phagwara from 1965 to 1971. During this tenure, he got constructed a number of
roads in villages of Phagwara. His mammoth contribution in the construction of
various link roads were well applauded by the people of the area. Once again,
in 1978, he was elected Chairman of Improvement Trust, Phagwara, and left an
indelible imprint on the minds of people. During the Governor rule in Punjab,
he held the membership of Distt. Planning Board, Kapurthala, for five
consecutive years, and that of village Advisory Committee for two consecutive
years. Behind all these prestigious accomplishments, his ardent zeal was to
follow the mission of ‘rural development’ as well as the growth and development
of the people, the region and the state of Punjab. S. Jagat Sing Palahi’s progressive
and transparent thinking, his honest way of working garnered abounding respect
and affection of the people, be it the field of politics, religion or
education. He was adorned twice with the title of ‘Social Worker’ by Punjab
Govt. for his unflinching commitment to his work.
The most exceptional and unique
aspect of S. Jagat Singh Ji’s persona was that he wholeheartedly committed
himself to every task he took in his hand. Though he was never an official
member of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee, he was appointed Receiver
of Historic Gurudwara, Sukhchainana Sahib and Gurudwara Chaura khuh, Phagwara in
the year 1983 During this time, he got three- story langar and residential building
constructed within a short span of only six months. He was appointed Chairman
of National Rural Development Society, Palahi in 1985. During this tenure,
under ‘The National Institute for Integrated Rural Development and Transfer of Technology
Programme’, he covered new milestones and provided facilities like water tanks,
gober gas plants, under-ground sewerage in eight schools of Phagwara Block.
S. Jagat Singh Palahi’s most remarkable contribution is in the field of
education. Under his visionary stewardship, the educational institutions in
Palahi and Shri Guru Gobind Educational Council were established. Marking the
400th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib, Miri Piri
Hall, main road to village Palahi, Miri Piri Gate, and Academic Pillar were
also constructed with the contribution of the devotees. Apart from these, Guru
Gobind Public School Palahi, Guru Nanak Collegiate School, Phagwara, and Guru
Nanak College, Sukhchainana Sahib, Phagwara were also established under his aegis.
Guru Nanak College Sukhchainana Sahib that came into existence marking the 500th
Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, has been reckoned as one of the pioneering institutions
of the region. Owing to his untiring efforts for the cause of education, he had
the honour of being included in the managing committee of a number of
educational institutions of the region such as Sant Baba Dilip Singh, Domeli
and Shri Guru HarRai Senior Secondary School, Dosanjh Kalah etc. He also
remained President, and Chief Advisor of many Social Welfare institutions like
Rotary Club, Environment Association, Punjab Action Group of School Development
and many literary and cultural associations like Punjabi Writers’ Association,
Palahi and Nav Chetan Literary Arts Society, Phagwara.
It is one the
most enchanting aspects of S. Jagat Sing Palahi’s exceptional persona that he
never aspired for prestigious positions. Whatever position he was offered in
any institution, he not only maintained the decorum of that but also gave it a
distinct identity by his wholehearted dedication and devotion. We salute this
great visionary’s noble mindedness, true perseverance, unwavering spirit and
transparent work ethics. It is worth mentioning here that in the later stage of
his life, suffering from various health issues, he took the sagacious decision
of quitting the Presidentship and handing it over to S. Jatinder Pal Singh
Palahi, whom he himself had groomed and taught varied nuances of politics and
management. The way S. Jatinder pal Singh Palahi bore the responsibility
entrusted to him and proved himself worthy of the trust reposed in him, is, in
fact, a matter of pride for the people of the region. Now, everybody has pinned
hopes on S. Jagat Singh Memorial Trust, which came into existence to
materialise the dream of our pioneer, Patron and guiding force S. Jagat Singh
Palahi- a champion for the cause of humanity and an inspiration for all of us.
