The event began with floral tributes to Dr.
Ranganathan, followed by an insightful lecture by the Library Department on the
significance of NLIST,
an INFLIBNET initiative that provides access to high-quality scholarly content,
including thousands of e-journals and over one lakh e-books.
The speaker explained that NLIST is a 24×7 digital gateway
offering authentic academic resources to colleges at highly affordable rates.
Students and teachers can access materials anytime and anywhere through their
personal login credentials.
Participants were introduced to the objectives
of NLIST, its collaboration with INFLIBNET and the Ministry of Education, and
its role in supporting higher education institutions, especially in semi-urban
and rural areas.
The lecture highlighted the vast collection
available under NLIST, including:
·
6,000+ peer-reviewed e-journals
·
1,00,000+ e-books from publishers like Oxford,
Cambridge, Sage, Springer, and McGraw Hill
·
Multi-disciplinary coverage for Arts, Science,
Commerce, Management, Education, and Computer Science
The audience learned how NLIST supports:
·
Project and assignment work
·
NET, competitive exams preparation
·
Research and publication
·
Curriculum development
·
Authentic referencing and citation
On this special occasion, the essential role
of librarians was emphasized—guiding users, promoting digital literacy,
managing subscriptions, and ensuring maximum utilization of e-resources.
The College Librarian encouraged students to
actively use NLIST for academic growth, noting that "in the era of digital
knowledge, e-resources are not a choice but a necessity." The session also
included a live demonstration on how to navigate the NLIST platform and
download academic materials.
National Librarian’s Day is observed every
year on 12 August,
commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. His Five Laws of
Library Science continue to guide library professionals globally. The event
served as a reminder of his vision of making knowledge accessible to all.
